State Key Laboratory of Shield Machine and Boring Technology is one of the key laboratories formally approved in the second batch by the Ministry of Science & Technology of China. Based on the high-end innovation platform of “Shield an Tunneling Technology International Combined Lab” and “Underground works technology and equipment innovation team” of Henan Province, the Key Laboratory is the sole national public research platform in shield and tunneling technology in China.

The Key Laboratory commits itself to guide and expand industry-university-research cooperation in shield industry, to tackle with advanced technology and key technology of shield independent design. It has formed three research directions: Cutter-head & Cutter technology, System Integration & Control, and TBM control technology. It also has projected and established fifteen experimental systems, that is, complex cutter detection, rock mechanism function, rock electro-hydraulic servo, 3D survey, electro-hydraulic control, automation integration, machine design and numeric calculation, construction data analysis, shield tunneling whole-progress modal, virtual reality, rock element analysis.
